UNFINDABLE

A feature documentary following three ordinary people who have chosen to disappear from the data economy — and what it costs them.

UNFINDABLE is a tactile techno-thriller set in Riga. While compiling critical research from centralized digital archives, Teresa watches her files, credentials, and institutional access vanish behind an unyielding screen: "Nothing Found." Realizing this is no technical glitch, she is forced off the grid and into the analog shadows of the city. To survive and reclaim her life, Teresa must master the dangerous discipline of staying hidden while executing a counter-move against a network that has already declared she doesn't exist.

The data economy runs on a simple premise: your behavior is a product. Every click, every search, every movement through a city — all of it is harvested, aggregated, and sold. Most of us have accepted this as the cost of modern life. But a small number of people have decided to refuse.

UNFINDABLE follows three of them over the course of two years.

MARGARET, 54, is a high school teacher in rural Montana who discovered that her health data had been sold to her employer's insurance provider. She has since deleted every account, switched to cash, and begun the slow, painstaking process of requesting her data be erased from the brokers who hold it. She is not paranoid. She is methodical.

DAVID, 41, spent eight years as a data broker — building the profiles that companies use to target, price, and predict. When he left the industry, he tried to disappear from the systems he once fed. He found it nearly impossible.

ANA, 38, is a mother of two in Lisbon who became concerned about what her children's digital footprints would mean for their futures. She has raised them, so far, without smartphones, without social media, without the ambient surveillance that most children grow up inside.

Their stories are not the same. Their reasons are not the same. But they share something: the belief that legibility — being known, being tracked, being predicted — is not neutral. That it has costs. And that those costs are not evenly distributed.

UNFINDABLE is not a film about paranoia. It is a film about what it means to be a person in a world that has decided your data is more valuable than your privacy.

I started this film because I wanted to understand what it actually costs to disappear. Not in theory — in practice. What do you give up? What do you gain? And who gets to make that choice?
